Local Acupuncturist’s Katrina Experience To Benefit Sedona

The post-Katrina desolation and post-traumatic stress in and around New Orleans is simply unimaginable. When we watch the news, we are often left with the impression that it is the Afro-American population of the 9th Ward that was/is affected. The work of the Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB)will inform you otherwise.

While volunteering as Katrina post-traumatic stress acupuncturist, Choice’s acupuncturist/herbalist, Beverly Coleman served on a team that was called upon day and night to treat Katrina survivors, rescuers, police, national guardsmen, public officials, public health workers, forensic examiners, FEMA personnel, refuse workers, church and mosque members, etc. Everyone was calling on our post-traumatic stress treatments because they were so effective. Our patients simply sat in chairs, fully dressed, while we needled strategic acupoints in their ears. The relaxation was immediate and they loved the results. In fact, many returned and most people asked us to treat other conditions (pain, blood pressure, headaches, etc.) while we were at it. The AWB has countless letters appreciating and extolling the benefits of community chair acupuncture and massage. If you would like greater explanation and visuals of this medical procedure and Beverly Coleman’s “Photo Essay on New Orleans,” (an informative slide show) please visit

This method of treatment is so effective, efficient and economical that Beverly has brought it back to serve the Sedona/Cottonwood populations. Beverly Coleman and Kim Whitefeather-Guisinger will begin Community Chair Acupuncture and Massage Clinics beginning February. At Choices Integrative Health Center, these clinics will be held on Mondays from 9 to 11 am upstairs. On Tuesdays the same clinic will be held at the Adult Community Center (ACC) at 10 am sharp in the large meeting room. Appointments are not necessary at this time – first come, first served. For more information call Choices (928 203-4844), ACC (928 282 2834) or Beverly Coleman at 928 204-9233.
